The erstwhile capital of
Russia was founded on May, 27, 1703 and remained so from 1712, till the Russian
Revolution of 1917 except for four years. Its name got changed to Petrograd to
Lenigrad to Saint Petersburg. My early morning walk in Nevsky Avenue along Dvorets
Belosel'skikh-Belozerskikh crossing Anichkov Bridge over Fontanka River to
Savior of the Spilled Blood Church. The walk in an early morning showed me an interestingly
illuminated Yekaterininskiy Sad, National Library of
Russia, Portik Perinnoy Linii, Bazilika Svyatoy Yekateriny Aleksandriyskoy, Dom
Knigi, Kazanskaya Square, Gostinyy dvor, Armyanskaya Apostol'skaya Tserkov' Sv.,
Yekateriny and The Benois Wing. I was
soaking in the history of more than three centuries and I could imagine the royal
parades, feuds, battles and wars which took on that very place of earth.
