This two tiered white building with golden
borders was built in 1935 by Nichidatsu Fujii, a Buddhist monk. It has a
beautiful ‘stupa’ topped with spire of nine rings. The compound has Buddhist
relics and symbols erected in its courtyard with a small water body. The living
quarters of the monks behind the main building are located at the back of the
main temple.
Nipponzan Myohoji, is a pacifist movement
of a branch of Buddhism called Nichiren
Buddhism. Its followers believe in Lotus Sutra “Na – Mu – Myo – Ho – Ren – Ge –
Kyo”, which translates as “I take refuge in the wonderful law of the Lotus
Flower Sutra”.
The temple monks are unique and surprise one with their level of involvement and interaction with the devotees.
